That little sweetie (the one in black)...she's mine.

Much to my dismay, she seriously disliked her first (and probably only) ballet class.

Oh, but she tried to like it. (Just look at the determination on her face.)
She went every single week, and she tried to think of good things to say about it.
Because she knew that her Mama would love it if she became a little dancer.

She just didn't love it.

And so this is what I have to remember her first ballet experience by.

Ever since I started doing photography I have been asked over and over again, "Do you do weddings?" My answer has always been a quick and determined, "No!" Weddings, I thought, were too much pressure for me. You have one chance to get it right; the day is one of the most special days of the happy couple's entire life. I didn't know if I was cut out for the stress of documenting such an important day. But recently I have begun to realize that by staying away from weddings I have been keeping myself from the beauty and the love that surrounds such a special occasion--that same beauty and love that I search for and strive to capture in all of my sessions. Perhaps it is time to change my answer.

My good friend, Jennifer, agreed to help me test the wedding waters. She allowed me to follow her around as she photographed Breann and Joseph on their special day. When I first met the happy couple, they had already tied the knot in the Washington DC Mormon Temple, and they were just beaming!

Many of their friends and family were there to share in the special day with them.

The sky had been a bit overcast for most of the day, but the rain did not start falling...until about two seconds after Breann and Joseph stepped outside.

Breann took it all in stride. She said that she would have rather had it rain than be hot and sticky like a typical summer day in Northern Virginia.

We tried to find covered areas to shoot in.

We waited out the rain and/or shot through it.

And they both looked gorgeous the entire time (unlike me, who looked like something the cat drug in)

I have to say, I didn't feel stressed at all. Breann and Joseph and their families were so great to work with. The day was filled with laughter and love...just the way I like it! I think there may be some more weddings in my future!

Editing these pictures took me on a trip down memory lane. Growing up I lived just around the corner from Tia. I remember hopping over the wall near her house on my way home from school. Her mom taught me dance, and I participated in many dance recitals with Tia. When we got a bit older, Tia would sometimes fill in as the dance instructor when her mom needed a substitute. On one occasion Tia asked me to help her out in the studio. We didn't have much time or money for dinner, so we stopped by the local grocery store where we found that they were having a huge sale on Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I must have eaten about 10 full size cups that night, and I was really paying for it. I felt awful by the time the night was over!! In fact, I didn't eat Reese's Peanut Butter Cups again for several years because just the thought of them brought back memories of my awful stomach ache from that evening. (Do you remember that, Tia?)

I haven't seen Tia or anyone from her family for probably 15 years, but I ran into her last month on my very last day in Utah. She wanted some updated pictures of her adorable family, so we pulled together a last minute photo shoot. She has some of the cutest kids ever! It was so much fun to be able to spend a bit of time with her family and get back in touch with an old friend.

I am pretty sure Jade is the world's easiest baby. Seriously. When she is hungry she sings "la-la-la." When she is tired she lets out a high pitched squeak or two. She falls asleep anywhere, and she doesn't mind too much if she misses a nap here and there. And, of course, she lights up when you pay attention to her. I don't mean to be a bragging aunt (okay, I do)...she loves me! She would always greet me with a big smile when I came around. Unfortunately, she is not quite as fond of the big, black camera that blocks my face. As soon as she saw it the expression on her face went from joy or contentment to bewilderment. And it happened lightning fast. I can't tell you how many times I tried to capture her cute habit of sucking on her toes. (I love it when babies do that!) She would be happily munching on her toes, not paying any attention to me whatsoever; I would slowly and inconspicuously as possible position myself for a shot--with my camera behind my back, of course. The second I started reaching for my camera the toes whipped out of her mouth and the bewilderment was back. I never even had a chance. Oh well, I think bewilderment is cute--at least if it is on this face.

This beautiful girl started out in this world as a silent, little sweetpea. She used to toddle her little self around and look at you with those big, brown eyes, and your heart would melt. As she grew (especially in the leg department--seriously, her legs go on forever!) she held onto her mellow personality. Cheyenne is just absolutely delightful--and beautiful to boot! She is headed into high school this year; the boys are going to be knocking down her door.

I was so encouraged by my recent shoot with my baby, that I decided to take each of my children out one by one and see if I couldn't get them all to make peace with the camera! This sweet boy (the one least likely to run from the camera) was my next project. He let me take him out to capture some shots of him and the things he loves right now.

It's been awhile since I have participated in the I Heart Faces Photo Challenges, but I was excited to start back up again when I saw the theme for this week: A Slice of Life. I love all types of photography, but lifestyle photography is what I am really passionate about. Like all of us, I get busy with my four kids and I go through stretches where my camera never makes its way out of the bag unless I have a client shoot. I am constantly trying to take more shots that document real life; the good and the bad.

It was so fun for me to look back through my photos to decide which one to enter. I found shots that brought back so many memories and emotions. It helped me to re-commit myself to taking the camera out more often to document what really matters: the everyday moments. It is the little, seemingly insignificant, everyday moments that make us who we are.

This photo of my youngest daughter was taken when she was in the stage of life where she wanted to dress herself, and she wanted to continue to change clothes all. day. long. It made us both crazy at times. I felt like all I did was laundry. Not only would I wash all of the many outfits that she wore and soiled each day, but then I would have to refold or hang the ones she threw on the floor when she couldn't find what she was looking for. In this particular picture she was looking for a ballerina outfit that her aunt had given her earlier that month. She had worn the tutu every single day since it was purchased, so at the time of this picture the outfit was being laundered.

When I walked into the room I had the choice to either break down in tears of frustration or take a picture. I chose the latter, and I am so glad that I did! Not only did it diffuse my emotion at the time, but now I have an adorable memory captured. Every time I look at this picture I smile. Oh how I love that little girl, even when she is being a pill.

One of the most common comments I hear when people find out that I am a photographer is "Oh, you must have your walls covered with beautiful pictures of your children." Sadly, that is not the case. *sigh* While I love taking pictures, I hate fighting my children to get them to cooperate. Because they have been bombarded with the camera for all or most of their lives, they usually do not willingly cooperate with my requests to take more pictures.

BUT, it looks like that might be starting to change! The other day my sidekick and I headed out the door to pick up the kids from the school bus. We were a few minutes early, so I thought I would bring along my camera and try to snap a few shots. She brought along her favorite doll, and off we went.

I was so happy when she not only cooperated with my requests, but she actually enjoyed it! We had so much fun playing with her doll and dancing in the spring air! (Almost too much fun because we had to run to make it to the bus stop in time!)

I was shocked the next day when I was folding laundry and she sweetly asked if we could go for a walk so I could take some more pictures of her as soon as I was done with the laundry. I didn't hesitate; I grabbed my camera right then and there, and once again we headed out for some fun and pictures.

I think I have some new pictures for my walls! (Now I just need to convince the other three to follow suit.)

Some people are newborn photographers. Some photographers focus on weddings. Others stick to children. And some even specialize in pets. I have thought about specializing in just one thing, but I can't figure out what I would give up. I feel so blessed to be able to photograph so many different kinds of people and situations.

Engaged couples are one category where I haven't had a ton of practice...but I hope to change that! I absolutely loved photographing Ghazal and Ben. They are so in love, and it shows in their pictures. I had a tough time choosing my favorite. Do you have a favorite? I would love to know.

This beautiful mom is the mom of three fun, crazy, and energetic boys. She knows just about all there is to know about trains, legos, and balls. But before long she will enter the world of baby dolls, purses, and dress-ups because now she is also the mom of this beautiful baby girl. However, judging from our photo shoot, this girl is going to be able to hold her own with her brothers. She is strong, alert, and not ready to let anyone tell her what to do!

What an incredible shoot this was! I was so blessed to spend a few days with my little sister, her adoring husband, and their brand new baby girl just after they came home from the hospital. It was so sweet and touching for me to be a part of such a special time in their lives. I have so many shots that I would love to share, but here are some of my favorites.

the pictures that almost weren't...

My good friend Teresa asked if I could get a few shots of her family, and, of course I said yes. So we quickly set up a date to take these cute gals and handsome Dad out. The night before our shoot, Teresa realized that she had scheduled for a time when her hubby would be working. Ok, no problem, just reschedule for a bit later. Well, then my own little missy decided to make it difficult for me to get out...a bit of juggling childcare and another crisis averted. Teresa packed all of her girlies in the car and picked me up...one problem: Dad hadn't quite made it home for work. We drove back to her house to wait. He was on his way; we left the movie on in the car so we didn't have to get the girls out. At this point Teresa was starting to panic a bit. She HAD to be home in less than an hour, and we hadn't even left the house yet! Just as she was about to have a meltdown, Andy walked in the door...good man! He quickly changed and we all hopped in the car. The battery was dead! No Way! The clock was down to 45 minutes and ticking. Teresa pulled out the jumper cables, and Andy hooked them all up to save the day. Uh-oh...smoke! Flames were shooting off of the cables! At this point Teresa was barely keeping it together. She started sprinting through the neighborhood in her high heels to find someone with another set of jumper cables. Thank goodness for good friends; they were over in less than a minute. The car was a bit stubborn, but within a few minutes it was running again, and we were on our way! We ended up only having about 15 minutes to get a few shots, and I discovered a great, new location! In the end, I think it all worked out alright.

What? You haven't ever had this experience? I hadn't either until I spent the morning with this sweet beauty. She made my job very easy. She is such a fun, happy girl! Our time together was a great start to my day!

Some gals just get it all...beauty, brains, talents. My niece, Amber, is amazing in every way. She was such a beautiful bride for her wedding last month. I was so happy to be able to capture a few shots of her in her wedding dress. Okay, maybe a bit more than a few. A handful of shots? A group? Anyhow, there are many more where these come from. I had such a hard time narrowing them down. It is hard to cut any out when you have such a beautiful subject and location. And she was such a trooper. We nearly ruined her brand new purple shoes, and she even braved changing her clothes with the landscapers darting back and forth.

Amber, I wish you all the love and happiness in the world!. I'm so glad I could shoot these for you. I hope you enjoy them!

You may remember Sawyer from about 6 months ago when I shot her newborn pictures. She was the tiniest and the easiest newborn I had ever taken pictures of. Well she is still super sweet, but she has definitely put on a few pounds since I last saw her. Sawyer was adorably chubby and the perfect, little model for her 6 month shoot.

I know I have said it before, but I LOVE Mother's Day!! I love that we take the time out to focus on mom's and all that they do for us. My mom has taught me so much! It seems like everyday I realize something new that my mom taught me, usually by example, that helps me out in my own life as a mom. And, oh how I love my job as a mom!! The four little people in my life bring me so much JOY!!

When I saw that the theme this week over at I Heart Faces was Celebrating Mom, I knew I had the perfect photo to enter. This is a picture of one of my good friends and 4 of her beautiful children. The challenge over at I Heart Faces this week is "Smiles!" Like everyone else, I have files full of smiling faces. This one stood out to me because it includes genuine, heartwarming smiles. My nieces, sisters, spent the afternoon with me so we could capture a few images as a surprise for their mom. Not only were they smiling during their time together, but their mom had some happy smiles of her own when she received the images that she didn't know were coming to her.

Can you believe it is April already?! Where did the year go...seriously!

We are getting very, very close to my favorite holiday: Mother's Day.

Why do I love Mother's Day, you ask? Well, of course because I am a mother, and the whole day has been created to celebrate me and what I do every day. Who doesn't love having everybody focus on them and shower them with gifts?

And then there is my kids. The whole fact that I get showered with praise and gifts (Ok, not "showered" exactly, but I do get an "Atta girl" here and there, and I usually get a gift or two) is because of the 4 little people living at my house. Without them this day would not be for me. Ooooo, and I do LOVE those kiddos!!

But the REAL reason that I love Mother's Day is because it is the one time of the year that I can coax my children into getting their picture taken WITH ME without any whining or complaining!

As the photographer in the family, I am rarely in any pictures with the rest of my family. Yet I am right there with them playing, eating, partying, vacationing, and just being...99.9% of the time. When I am in the picture, it is generally just a look-at-the-camera-and-smile type of picture.

What I would love...REALLY love...is meaningful pictures of me being a mom: playing card games, cooking breakfast, laughing, hugging, giving baths, playing at the park, kissing a boo-boo, tying a shoe, reading a book...you get the picture.

I am pretty sure that there are other parents out there who are the family "photographer" who feel the same way. But I am hoping to change that for at least some of you.

Here is my idea:

These sessions are not intended to be your typical look-at-the-camera-and-smile type of sessions. Yeah, we may get a few of those, but what I really want to focus on is the love and connection between parent and child. I want to capture your special bond and relationship with your child. I want to document those moments and rituals that mean so much to you at this very moment. Whether it be cuddling in bed together, practicing baseball at the park, or reading a favorite book together, I want to capture the moments that are special to you so you will have them to look back on always.

You may have noticed that the price of these sessions are SIGNIFICANTLY reduced from my normal fees. (It's a savings of almost 60% off my regular fees!!!) The reason for this is because I want every mother or father to have the opportunity to take advantage of these important sessions.

Baby steps in the journey

I'm pretty sure I won't be winning any awards for these pictures from my last family session. And yet, I LOVE them. They make me ridiculously happy. The reason? Let me explain.

A few years ago when I enrolled in school to study photography, I had no idea the journey that it would take me on. I wanted to learn more about my camera and the art of photography for selfish purposes. I just wanted to take better pictures of my kids.

The further I got into my program, the more I realized how much I ADORE this art. I am passionate about it.

And I am also often frustrated. Now that I have completed my program, I have trained my eye to recognize "good" photography. I can confidently use my camera to consistently create properly exposed and framed photographs. I know many of the rules and techniques that lead to great photographs.

I have figured out much of the technical aspects of photography (Although, of course, there is ALWAYS more to learn...I will never stop learning.) What I have not yet figured out is ME as a PHOTOGRAPHER. The best photographers have an identity...a style. They are confident enough with themselves as photographers that they do not let the rules of photography cramp their vision or purpose.

I have been searching for that missing link that will allow me to express myself through photography rather than just taking good photographs. I have been struggling with how to give my clients what they are looking for--a family portrait, shots to remember their child at a certain age--while still being true to ME. I have been searching for MY style and identity as a photographer.

I realize that this takes years to sort through for many people. I know I have a long way to go. I am trying to be patient and realize that my journey may take longer than many others because photography is a few steps down on the totem pole of my priorities.

But this darling family helped me to take a baby step toward my goal. They allowed me to be ME during our time together.

When I talked with Natalie before our shoot, she expressed confidence in me. She told me how she wanted to get some family portraits, but, more importantly, she wanted some "un-posed," natural shots.

My goal during the shoot was to capture the emotion of this family. I wanted to document their love and connection with one another. I wanted to capture them AS THEY WERE, not as they could be if I posed them perfectly and positioned them so that the light fell beautifully across the frame. I worried less about perfection in the technical aspects of photography and more about the emotion that could be felt.

I was thrilled with the results! Were they perfect? Absolutely not. But I was able to capture Ella's connection with her favorite little lamb, her adoration for her mom, and her playfulness with her dad. I was able to document the love between husband and wife, and the protectiveness of a loving father. I was able to show shyness and laughter and love and REAL-ness.

I hope this little family will be as happy with their pictures as I am.

I have to admit, after taking a long break from photography, I was a bit nervous for this session. Was I really ready to jump back into it again?

When I saw these big, blue eyes & curly blonde locks my heart started beating faster. I couldn't wait to get her in front of the camera. I knew I was ready.

Emma and I had so much fun together. At first she was a bit hesitant. But it didn't take her long to warm up to me and my camera. We ran and jumped and played. By the time our session was over, she wasn't quite ready to go. She kept pointing out new spots that would be perfect for a few snaps.

I'm a bit of a paranoid mother. I don't trust what is lurking out there on the internet, so I don't share much of my personal life. But I thought it was time to give you a little peek at the little people that make my world go 'round. They make me smile, laugh, cry and scream almost every day...and I love every minute of it. They are my life.

Without these kids, I probably never would have pursued photography. I may never have known the fulfillment and joy that I receive from this hobby. Without them there would be no reason for me to pick up my camera every day. Without them, this blog would never exist.

As every photographer knows, photographing your own kids can be pure torture! It generally involves a whole lot of frustration on both sides of the camera. My kids try to cooperate, they really do. This day they each gave me about 3 minutes. I didn't get exactly what I was hoping for (20x24 images for my wall), but I did get a few shots that I think are pretty darn cute. But don't take my word for it, you can be the judge for yourself.

Some people have a hard time smiling when they get in front of a camera. Then there are those, like me, who can't do anything but smile. If I ever try to give a serious or a sexy look, I end up looking just plain silly. It always amazes and delights me when I get to take photos of someone like this who looks equally beautiful no matter what expression she has on her face. She's gorgeous, no?!

My Peanut

When I decided to learn more about photography, I was excited to take some great new shots of my kids. Imagine my surprise when all of the sudden my kids gained an awful aversion to my camera. It caused wet, teary eyes for some. Others just avoided it altogether. Try as I might, I was rarely able to get a decent shot of my kids.

As time has gone on, my kids have slowly gotten over their camera distaste, and I am able to get a shot or two every now and then. This was the case the other morning when I took my sweet Peanut out location hunting. She only gave me a few minutes, but I was able to walk away with some fun shots of my little girl.

Ahhh, this little girl melts my heart. She is pure sweetness!

First off, I have to thank all of my fans. (oooh, it sounds like I am accepting an Academy Award...glamorous!)

Seriously, though, I am so glad that I have some fans on the Dion Seneca Photography facebook page! My goal was to get 50 fans. I almost made it. I was at 47 when I did the drawing today. I'm feeling good about that! It is fun to check back every few days and see some new fans!

When I first got there she wasn't sure if she wanted to be awake or asleep. I debated putting her in this wooden dish while she was awake, because I didn't think it was going to be very comfortable for her. Boy was I wrong! As soon as we set her down in the dish she closed her eyes and fell right to sleep! Babies sure are funny creatures. And oh how I love them!

Prepare yourself for picture overload. I just couldn't help myself. It was a new experience for me to have 2 willing subjects who did not try to escape my camera! Heaven, actually! And the fact that they were beautiful made it even better.

They would end up in poses like this without any direction at all. Seriously.

I had a great engagement session last week. My first engagement session ever actually. And I absolutely. loved. it! I loved the feeling and interaction between these two. It didn't hurt that they were both absolutely stunning, too!! There are so many I want to share, but for now I just have one.

Random thought of the night: If you have never been pregnant, then the best way that I can explain how it feels to be kicked from the inside is to have a nearly constant, very large, muscle twitch in your belly. Mmmm-hmmm. As I have been editing tonight I have this muscle twitch that just will not go away.

On to the photos...

This mom is beginning to be a bit of a blog hog. Not necessarily by her choice. I guess that is just what happens when our families tend to spend a lot of time together and I always have a camera. I don't mind (I'm sure you won't either.) She is pretty to look at, and this time she is accompanied by her beautiful family. There is a few of them {understatement!}. This is our second attempt to take a good family picture for them this year. This time I think we managed to do it, and no head swapping was necessary! Way to go team!

Witches night out!

I must admit, I am not normally a "dress up" kinda gal when it comes to Halloween. I am happy to get my kids all dolled up, and I love to see all of the cute/scary/clever Halloween costumes. But I prefer to watch it all while wearing a comfy pair of jeans and a warm sweatshirt. So this year when my good friends suggested that we start a new tradition of "witches night out" I was a bit leary. I wasn't sure that dressing up as a witch--and on a day that was NOT Halloween--to go out to dinner and to "Thriller" Dance performance was a good idea. Yet I gave in to peer pressure and headed out for the evening with these witches:

(Everyone had such great and unique witch outfits. I quickly grabbed as many girls as I could to take individual shots, but in my rush, I missed several witches, and I forgot to change my ISO that was set at 6400! Ooops!)

Let's be honest, it would be hard not to have a good time with these gals!! Everyone looked at us like we were crazy at the restaurant and we nearly froze sitting in the outdoor amphitheater on one of the coldest days of the season so far. And we made some fantastic memories! I feel like one of the luckiest girls around to have so many great friends!

I puffy heart love these girlies! Who wouldn't love hanging out with these sweet girls every day? I know I would. By the end of our session together they were asking me if I could please be their stepmom...how sweet! I'll take them. A few of my gal pals and I decided get away from home for the weekend and learn how to better rock our cameras. There was a ton of eating, laughing, and just plain fun going on. And, of course, we ended up with some fun photos...a few hundred fun photos!! The fun continues as I spend time editing these shots. I love the freedom to be able to play to my hearts content knowing that these pictures are just for me--well, they're for R and T, too, but those girls have to just get what I give them, lol. I'm putting up just a few, but there will definitely be more coming soon!

I had this fun session with a super cool family. These are people that I respect and admire in so many ways.

The supermom of these 5 gorgeous kids got everybody up and ready before 7:30am. I knew she was amazing, but that just confirmed it for me. I can learn so much about being a mom from her. Not just any mom, but a real involved, engaged, patient, loving mom. She is amazing.

Sweet, little cherub {St. George, Utah Newborn photographer}

I'll tell you what, if I keep photographing such sweet little things, I might just end up with more children than I can handle. Every time I get around these squishy little people I feel a twinge of yearning for a new baby. I'm sure if I was around them long enough--and espcially if I was up until 4am with a wide-awake little person, then the hunger for a newborn would subside. As it is, I get to spend a few hours with them, make them look super cute, and then be on my merry way. I always walk away thinking "awwww!" But as soon as I walk through the doors at my own house and rediscover the chaos that never left while I was away, I remember why 4 children is just perfect for me.

This little gal is simply adorable! Don't you think she looks just like a little cherub. I think it is her full belly and her sweet, round face that reminds me of a cherub. She is absolutely beautiful!

I love, love, LOVE this girl! Isn't she gorgeous? She is just as beautiful on the inside, too. She has waited a long time to be a married woman, and yesterday her dream came true. She married an amazing guy who loves and adores her. They are perfectly matched. I am just overflowing with happiness and excitement for them.

She allowed me to take some bridal photos of her in her fantastic wedding dress. This is one of the most fun shoots that I have done. It was great to be there with my sister and participating in this exciting time with her.

This is one lucky little girl! Not only does she have these adorable kids as her siblings,

One Cool Family {St. George, UT family photographer}

One of the things that I love about photography is that I get to meet new people and strive to capture their true personalities. This session was a bit different. I know these people...quite well actually. This is my awesome brother and his family. I know these guys well enough to know that they wanted something a little bit different than your look-at-the-camera-and-smile family portrait. I really enjoyed testing out a new location and doing things a bit differently than I normally do. (And it helped out to know that when my pants split open when I bent over and exposed about 6 inches of my backside, it was only family who was around to witness the scene :))

Big boy blue eyes {St. George Children's Photographer}

Let's be completely honest, a lot of newborns arrive looking...ummm...like they have been through the ringer. It takes them a bit to recover from their journey to join us on the outside. After a few days of life on earth, they start to regain their head shape, shed their puffiness, and show us their beauty. Well this little gal was absolutely adorable right from the get-go. When I saw how squishy and yummy she was at only 3 days old, my heart leaped. I can only imagine how her parents must feel. She has the deepest dimples I have ever seen on a newborn, and the little cleft in her chin is just adorable! This is one sweet, beautiful baby!

Wow, this little guy gave me a run for my money. Usually newborns are super sleepy and pretty much let you just do your stuff. Not this babe. He wanted to be a part of all of the action. Six-week-old sleeper

Just for the record, 2 week old babies are a lot different to photograph than 6 week old babies. This sweet one's aunt (and my dear friend) told me that she was a beautiful 2 week old baby girl. When I met "M" and found out that she was actually 6 weeks old, I had a moment of panic. But that quickly passed when I realized what a sweetheart this little one was. She actually slept quite soundly for most of the shoot, but she woke up now and then to give us a look at her beautiful eyes.

Friday friends {St. George Baby Photographer}

On Friday I loaded up all my kids in the car, drove them over to Grandma's house to play, and then I headed off to do my own playing.

I had some very cool playmates for the day. First off it was baby "D." Check out all his hair. Love that! We had a great time hanging out together...so much fun, in fact, that he did not want to go to sleep. Silly boy. It is pretty tough to get great newborn pics when you don't go to sleep. But that is okay with me...it just means I get to come back again and spend more time with this little cutie.

Next I got a chance to meet sweet, little "M." I had so much fun dressing her up and accessorizing her in some very unique ways. She was an angel.

I got a new camera...the Nikon d700! I LOVE it!! This is just a quick snap I took tonight at ISO 6400 and NO NOISE REDUCTION SOFTWARE!!! Wowza!! (Those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, just know that this is AMAZING!! With my old camera, photos taken at higher than 400 ISO looked MUCH grainier/noisier than this.) Just thought I would share my news.--and my darling little one who is growing up way too fast!

I know you have heard it said, and it could be considered a cliche, but the
powerful words, “there is no day like today” rings so very true during this time
of cutting back in the American economy.

I have thought about it a lot.
Our family, like any other, is going through our priorities and reevaluating
what we consider important enough to invest our money into. Everyday new
challenges are presented to us and we carefully consider how we will handle them
in light of our own financial situations. So I know what it means when clients
and friends say that they are trying to be wise when making decisions about
photography.

However there is something unique about photography that is
not true about a lot of our other expenditures. A lot of the things that we buy
will be around tomorrow and next week and next year for us to buy. That new flat
screen television will still be at Best Buy (given that Best Buy is still in
business, lol!) next year. In fact if you wait you may even get a better model.
And that new couch and loveseat set will still be at the furniture store next
year or you may find one that you like even better for a better deal later this
year.

But your children, and family will not be the same later this
year. Your newborn baby will not be as small as he or she was the first 10 days
of his or her life ever again. Your one or two year old will not be a toddler
forever. You will not be pregnant 9 months from now with the child you are now
carrying (THANK GOODNESS, right?). And your wedding day is a once in a lifetime
event. The exact make up of your family as it is today will never be the same.
Kids grow, situations change, dad’s lose their hair… like it is said, there is
no day like today.

So here is my point. When you are reevaluating your
budget and choosing your priorities, please do not under estimate the value of
having the moments of your life captured by a professional photographer. Your
baby girl’s smile is priceless, get a tangible memory of that up on your wall as
art. Your family is beautiful. And as many of our possessions are becoming less
of a priority in this economic time, the value of family increases. Today is the
day to turn your memories in to art.

And here is the deal. If you

session with me before June 30, 2009, you will receive a $50 print credit for
making your family’s memories a priority during these tough times. It is my
challenge to you to make sure and treasure the moments of your life, and to let
me be a part of capturing those moments.

Since my packages are digital, I will match her $50 credit, but it will be off your session fee! That means $50 off of any full session as long as you book before June 30, 2009! The only catch is that you must pay a $50 non-refundable deposit at the time of booking. (If you need to reschedule, the deposit will transfer to the new date.)

This session tops the list of my favorite sessions so far this year. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that I am the Mom, and that he actually wanted to have his pictures taken by me. (That NEVER happens.) I resorted to bribery, and it worked like magic! He was all business in front of the camera, so I didn't get one of his signature smile, but I am pretty pleased with them nonetheless. Thanks for looking!

These are seriously some of the funniest people I know! LOVE them! Little Lizard wasn't too excited about cooperating with us, so we took a quick warm-up break. (It was FREEZING outside!!)
